Smoke rings blow from across the disco

As I waited to speak to the teacher after class, two girls giggled in front of me. They approached the teacher. "We were wondering if we could skip class on July 25th," one of them said. "We know there's a big quiz, but we were wondering if we could do something about that," the other one said.

The teacher's eyes narrowed. "You can always just not take it, or drop that quiz. It's up to you. I'm not your mother. But I'll warn you, most people don't study for tests they don't take. And this is a good opportunity to secure a good score and take some of the risk out of the remainder of the class. Why would you want to do that?"

In unison they shreiked, "We're going to audition for American Idol!!"
