Lucy, Sky, Diamonds

On Saturday night, the frat house that our apartment is attached to had an oddly-timed pledge party. The whole scene was typical: drunken girls, guys in ties, etc. At 2am one of the frat guys banged on our door. He wanted to resolve a parking dispute that we had with him.

"BEFORE YOU SAY ANYTHING," he raged, "YOU'RE LOOKING AT THE GUY WHO PAYS YOUR ELECTRICITY SO KEEP THAT IN MIND AND PARK WHERE I TELL YOU TO, OR I'M GONNA BUST YOU!"

We laughed and told him to go home. The next day he put a note of apology on our door, and I responded by leaving a 12-pack of Natty Light on their doorstep. I even attached a big peace sign to it, so they would get the connection.

On Monday I thought over the situation. Was I being a sucker for extending a ten dollar olive branch to my neighbor? I didn't do anything wrong. Am I conveying a position of thankfulness for his apology and thus subordination? Shouldn't they be lucky that I allow them to engage in lame underage parties and never call the cops?

Today, though, I feel good about my decision. I left them a box of Natural Light Beer as a peace offering. That is insulting. I hope.
