Last night the wife and I watched "Big Night," a movie about two Italian brothers who open a restaurant in the U.S. Tony Shaloub is hilarious and the food scenes are amazing. It's one of my favorite movies but the wife had never seen it. I am convinced that the wife never saw any movies before we met. Last week I made her watch Dr. Strangelove for the first time.
"Big Night" discusses the finances of opening a restaurant and how good food does not necessarily translate to profits. At one point, the chef says, "People should come just for the food." The manager responds, "Yes, but they don't." It's the same reason why I can get a reservation at Barbetta tonight but two blocks away in Times Square there will be a wait for a table at the Olive Garden. It's what keeps me practicing law.
This morning we saw an advertisement for the new Indiana Jones movie. My wife said, "I never saw the first one." It's a neverending struggle.
