Usually in November, the partners in law firms become extra harsh in
their criticisms. They know that the end of the year means bonuses
and raises for the associates, which makes them extremely angry.
Law firm partners are like Mr. Crabs. Picture Mr. Crabs giving
Spongebob a big raise. He's not going to be in a good mood.
The partners also want to remind the associates that they suck so that
when they give the associates tiny raises and sub-par bonuses, the
associates will feel fortunate to get anything at all after all of the
abuse. It's all part of the game.
This year, my bosses have been extremely nice to me lately. And of
course, it is freaking me the fuck out. So I came to the only logical
conclusion: they are going to fire me. That's the only thing it could
mean. They're being nice to me so that I leave peacefully. They
don't have to be mean to me, they're done with me.
The wife suggested that perhaps I am overthinking the situation. So
now I think she's out to get me too.
