It's the thing that goes moo

Over the weekend I made dinner for the parents. I made steak au poivre and pommes anna. The steak was a little overdone, the potatoes were a little underdone, and of course I lack the patience to properly thicken the sauce. But it wasn't a bad meal. My father even paid it the ultimate compliment: he didn't put A-1 or Tabasco on anything I made.

For dessert I made macarons for the first time. As you can see, I didn't put enough ganache, but they were pretty good for a first try. I explained to my parents that these are a Parisian dessert and the goal is to have three different textures in one cookie: an outer shell that shatters when you bite it, a soft cookie-like interior, and of course the creamy ganache.

"Oh," my dad said, "Just like an Oreo!"
