Though he is dead, he haunts your dreams

Over lunch a colleague and I discussed ethnic pride and its correlation to fear-of-parents in our students. For instance, our Asian students are afraid of their parents, and our students of, uh, European descent? Notsomuch.

"When I was in college," he said, "I dated a Korean girl. She couldn't tell her parents she was dating a white guy."

"Oh. Humiliating," I said.

"Not so much just that," he replied, "but she told them my name was Kim... couldn't she have chosen something more manly??"
