This is an invitation across the nation

Last night I was in the grocery store picking up some last-minute supplies for my holiday baking.  There was an older couple in front of me buying enough food for an army.  When I noticed that they had over two pounds of shallots, I asked the woman, "How many people are you having?"

She leaned in close to me, put her head down as if she were going to tell me a secret, and said, "Shhhhhhh."

The gentleman was piling a second layer of bags on top of his second shopping cart, noticed what I said and blurted out, "EVERYBODY.  We're having everybody.  Seven thousand people.  You see all this?  This is our SECOND TRIP.  And this doesn't even include the turkey and the fish, because that had to be special ordered."

Just then his total came up on the register: $223.09.

"And the last trip was more than this.  Five hundred bucks!  And that's without the turkey!"

I wished them luck and reminded them that feeding people was a good deed.  The wife smiled and winked at me, but the husband just looked jealously at my small pile of raspberries, brie, triscuits, and almond paste.
