I was back in my home town of Staten Island this weekend and I was sad
to see that one of my favorite stores, New Dorp Lumber, has closed up.
I was heartbroken. I loved the people there. It was one of those
neighborhood places where you could talk freely about the Yankees, the
new shit they use for decks, and the idiot who wanted to put twenty
sheets of drywall on his VW Beetle.
"I'm really going to miss that place," I told my dad. "I have been
going there since I was kid."
"You're going to miss that place?" my dad asked. "I've been going
there since it was called 'New Dorp Coal.'"
