Knowledge is pain

The other night we had dinner at Boyfriend's parents' place. Boyfriend's parents are different from mine in that they want to engage in conversation and find out about our lives; mostly, his mother wants to talk. Due to the extemporaneous manner of conversation, mistakes were made:
1 explicit reference to marijuana
1 drop of the F-bomb
3 total sexual references, including the aged, the unmarried, and their home
1 small argument.

The following night we had dinner at my parents' place. My parents watch television constantly. Dinner is no exception. Because the entire audio-visual entertainment portion of the dinner was provided and none of it involved interaction between us, no mistakes were made.

I understand the importance of television in people's lives.
