I was turned down for two jobs yesterday, which is good and bad.
It's good because I didn't want either one of the jobs. It's bad because I would have taken either one of them.
It's bad because it accelerates my suicide planning. It's good because I can tell you one of the funniest things I've ever heard a partner say on a job interview.
One of the places was a law firm in New Jersey. They all wear suits and ties every day. This is a rarity in the legal world. Almost everyone wears only collared shirts and dress pants every day. Even the more formal firms in New York City go casual during the summer. When I met with the managing partner at the end of my interview, I asked him why he created the formal dress code.
He said, "People are more productive when they are dressed better. That's just a fact. We have casual Fridays here, and EVERY Friday production is lower than it is for the rest of the week."
And he was dead serious.
