Last weekend while cleaning out the wife's old apartment, we gathered
up the cable boxes to bring back. She mentioned that there was a
cable box still in her roommate's bedroom, but the cable was in the
wife's name. I said, "The end of the month is in three days, let's
just grab it and bring it back."
The problem was that her roommate is a little slow. She didn't really
know how things worked. I have heard her say really strange things
such as, "Oh, I didn't realize you couldn't put metal in the
microwave. It went on fire so I ran out of the apartment" and "You
left a dirty bowl in the sink so I filled it with water and put a
plastic bag over it so we wouldn't get bugs." Thus, I had no reason
to believe that she knew a cable box had to be returned to the cable
company when one moves.
Yesterday the wife did the final walkthrough and noticed that the
roommate's bathroom had not been cleaned at all and was a complete
disaster. She called the roommate who informed her, "I was really
upset that you took my cable box. I didn't have television for the
last three days. So I didn't clean the bathroom."
