I Am Proud of my Diverse Group of Friends

I have a friend who is socially awkward, even more than me. Let me allow that to sink in.

We were at a crappy American diner last night when the table next to us erupted in clapping and cheers. So my friend joined in, a little bit late- after they had all stopped, over there at the other table. He did it to be sarcastic. It was kind of funny.

The dirty looks from the other table subsided eventually, and he recovered before any shame was felt. I nudged him and raised my eyebrows. "Oh, that?" he replied. "That's nothing. Once I accidentally started clapping after someone said the word Holocaust." He took a bite from his hamburger, then chewed vacantly.

The best part is that my friend aspires to a career in conservative politics.
